What a difference a year makes. After almost sixteen months of mandated closure due to Covid, Bay Ridge Center and Bay Ridge Connects re-opened their doors this past July. Although we remain restricted to 25% capacity, it has been a joy to welcome back our members.
Our members are why Bay Ridge Center exists in the first place. In communicating with them recently I asked why they were grateful for Bay Ridge Center. The overwhelming sentiment is that Bay Ridge Center occupies a significant place in our member’s lives. To illuminate this I have shared some of their responses in the quotes on this page.
In addition to our congregate services, Bay Ridge Center continues to provide home delivered meals service to our most vulnerable, homebound seniors — a service that continued uninterrupted throughout the long months of the pandemic.
As I transition to my new role as Executive Director I am proud and honored to lead an organization as vital as Bay Ridge Center forward. I am fortunate to have a professional, dedicated and energetic staff that prioritizes programs and service to our community of adults 60+.
It is my hope that we not only continue to provide critical services and programs but to strengthen and diversify our initiatives to serve an even greater population of older adults.
Please consider a holiday donation to help insure that we can continue to provide the resources to help seniors in Southwest Brooklyn successfully age in place.
With my personal wishes to you for a happy
and safe holiday season,
Todd W. Fliedner
“What I love about BRC: the various intelligent workshops of all kinds (tech, health, financial, home making), and mindful fun activities. Thank you again for the Bay Ridge Connects Senior Center.”
— Reka S.
"Like so many seniors during the pandemic I was sheltering at home. I discovered in January that you were doing Zoom classes. I can’t say enough good things about the teachers. They know their students, they know their material and they really care about us. They are all genuine, kind and very caring people. In addition to the health benefits, I have made new friends, and my energy level has gone up. I thank you and the staff for helping us get through a rough patch."
— Christine H.
“I am immensely grateful for all the choices that BRC offers to us seniors! Due to my schedule and the fact that I don’t live close to the Center I’m only taking advantage of the Zoom options at this point. I especially love the exercise classes! BRC has been a life saver for me during the pandemic. Thanks so much to everyone at BRC!”
— Christine B.
“The center was my life line during the Covid lock down. I lost my husband halfway through and my only contacts were the zoom classes from the center. I’m grateful every day for Mary Ann, Ronissha, & Jennifer. Thank you.”
— Susan K.
“Wonderful services for Corona vaccine, and running various programs benefitting the seniors. Keep the good work running. Thanking you.”
— Abdul R.
“Grateful for a place where I can spend time with friends, share a meal, do crafts, get free items and learn new things.”
